Where We Came From...Our company was founded by Alec Farrar in 1931 and steadily grew until the beginning of World War 2. In the 1940s Alec Farrar was trained at Burnham Military Camp and later assigned to the 29th Battalion, leaving the business in capable hands of his accountant and foreman. He returned as a Major and took up the reins of the company again.
The 1960s brought about a surge of development, where large quantities of turned, stamped, cast, and machined, parts flowed from the factory to customers throughout New Zealand. As the company continued to expand, two local companies were purchased, increasing the capacity and ability to diversify the range of products and services, becoming a 'ONE STOP SHOP'. |
While in business Alec Farrar continued his service to the wider community:

Alec Farrar died in 1977 while at a meeting in Wellington before the company expanded and moved into a new custom-made building at 231 Dyers Road, Bromley. His son Robert Heathcote Farrar took over the company along with his wife Hope and sons Robbie and Brent Farrar, all taking up different roles within the company. Upon the death of Robert Farrar, the company was passed to his sons.
Alec Farrar’s vision and diversification in the early days seemed to be a key to helping the company survive through the hard times to follow. |
Where We Are Now...Alec Farrar Engineering remains a family business and continues to serve the community, where manufacturing and service to our customers take priority. Staff focus, health & safety and environmental responsibility also plays a vital role.
